How to create memorable photos to show off your eco-friendly wedding

Your wedding day is special. You want to make sure every detail is perfect – and you want to capture beautiful photographs so you can look back and remember it all for years to come.

If you’ve made the effort to hold an eco-friendly wedding, then chances are you’ll want your photographs to show this off. Partly for the memories, and partly to show other eco-conscious couples that it can be done!

Here are a few tips for creating memorable photos that show off your commitment to sustainability.

  1. Shoot in natural light

While professional photographers will be able to edit photos so they look their best, there’s nothing quite like shooting in natural light. Everyone will look good, and your eco-friendly touches will be captured in their full glory.

  1. Incorporate nature into your photos

Choose an outdoor location, or use local flowers and plants as part of the decor. They have a much smaller carbon footprint than greenery from other countries, add plenty of beauty to pictures, and can be composted at the end of their lifespan.

Composting is great for the environment because it reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill, reduces methane emissions from landfill, delivers nutrients into soil, and even increases plant growth (sometimes by up to 50%!).

  1. Avoid disposable props

It can be fun to leave props out for guests to use when they take photos. But if you’ve thought about sustainability throughout the wedding planning process, chances are you don’t want to buy knick-knacks that will only get thrown away afterwards.

Reports suggest that 4,910 tonnes of unrecyclable plastic was left behind at British weddings last year, so these worries are not unfounded. Instead, choose items you already own, or leave out the props altogether.

  1. Hire an environmentally conscious photographer

Hiring a photographer is a hugely important part of any wedding plans. And with sustainability becoming a key consideration for more and more engaged couples, it’s natural that professionals who work within the wedding industry are taking this into account. So why not look for a photographer whose practices are as sustainable as possible? Most will proudly state their policies on their websites, and happily answer any questions you and your partner have before you book them.

  1. Pay attention to the details

Is there any eco-friendly element of your wedding you’re particularly proud of? Make sure your photographer gets some shots of it. Maybe it’s the favours you’ve left on the table for each guest, or maybe you’re enamoured with your rented dress and suit. Whatever it is, be sure to let the photographer know you’d like to show it off to full effect.

By following some of the tips above, you can create stunning images that show off your special day and its sustainability, documenting a celebration to remember.
